I just happened to be watching an episode of All in the Family this morning. Gregory Sierra, an excellent actor who used to be on Barney Miller, had a guest spot. 'Got me thinking of Abe Vigoda. If there was ANY justice, the Oxford Dictionary would have a picture of Mr Vigoda beside the expression 'Dead pan humor'. Although he was a star in his own right -and series- for a few years, I prefer to think of him as a character actor. GOD KNOWS today's TV needs character actors...it might have character then! I'm happy to see that Mr Vigoda is having a productive semi-retirement (Wikipedia lists a few recent voice-overs - and the Letterman sketche). I don't usually partake in blogs (I'm a technophobe by nature), but I'm happy to say -to whomever reads this- that Mr Vigoda is part of the acting community that has kept TV from becoming completely irrelevant and superficial.

I sing praise for the day Mr.Vigoda marched into my village (which I am not allowed to name under duress from A.C.L.U. based pressure groups with bullhorns)and liberated us from the tyranny of the unnamable Groatanvigal

My mom still insists to this day that my first word was "Abe," when only 9 months old. When I had no one else to turn to in the dark years of my high school experience when I felt like such a reject, Abe was there for me to see me through.

One of the most precious moments of my life was "The Lighting of the Vigoda" on the Conan O'Brien show. Abe stood there like a beacon of hope to a confused generation searching for answers. May his light never go out!

I,ve got nuthin to say, cept that I know Bobbys nickname before there was a Robert Dinero,
Wrote to him once or twice I didn't expect him to answer any of them and guess what, he never let me down, one time I even took him to church, Catholic Church of course, and I would stand or kneel just to see him make all those mistakes. I really loved that guy as no brother could ever love his brother, but growing up together was not in the plan, but thats ok because he was so much fun to get him mad at dumb things.

Abe Vigoda was my reason for being! All my life I dreamed of being on the Barney Miller show In fact once I had a dream that I was having coffee in the 7th precinct and fish told me "The secret to success is always keeping a flattened prune in your wallet" and "Never use low cost condoms! they'll always break when you are wearing your beer goggles"
